The Dragons' U14girls--the Valkyries--meet the Toronto Arrows

Sunday June 5th was an amazing day for rugby for your very own Toronto Dragons U14 girls team, the Valkyries.

The girls headed up to York University for a tournament hosted by Toronto City’s girls team, the Amazons. Due to some other teams dropping out of the tournament unexpectedly it led to an ultimate face off between Toronto City and Toronto Dragons. The girls played multiple small mini 20 minutes games against one another with 10 minute halves. It was a great tournament day for the girls with many ups and downs that led to some superb learning moments.

As the morning continued, who knew whether the day could get better until...the amazing Toronto Arrows rugby team showed up to have a meet and greet with the players!

The girls had an amazing time meeting the Arrows players and getting to ask them questions about what it’s like to be professional rugby players. They even got to get some amazing photos with the Toronto Arrows. Going into the final game of the day some of the Toronto Arrows players gave some great advice on how to be the best rugby player you can be. As they stepped onto the field with their heads raised high the girls began to play their best game of the day. It was a fantastic match to watch with many amazing tackles, runs and spectacular tries. All parents and coaches were extremely proud of how well the girls played and how much they learned on the day.

Even though the tournament was finished, the day wasn’t yet over for the Dragons. They had been invited to go and watch the Toronto Arrows play at York University where they played their absolute hearts out but fell short of a win, losing 35-50. Despite the Arrows not bagging the win, the Dragons still cheered them on until the very last whistle. It was an absolutely brilliant day and the Toronto Dragons want to thank the Toronto Arrows for showing the girls what rugby is all about.
