Intro to Rugby

This past week, our Rugby Development Officers, Gregory Hovesen and Dorian Ferrera were at Dante Alighieri Academy introducing the sport of rugby to the grade 8 students that will be attending the school this coming fall. Through communication with Dante staff Ann Fearon, the Dragons were able to come in and educate over 175 students who have never picked up a rugby ball before. The workshop was spread over a span of three days. The kids started off by learning the fundamentals of rugby and by the last day, the students we able to execute proper games of touch rugby. Some of these fundamentals that were covered were basic pass and catch, defensive structure as well as offside awareness. With the help of some volunteer senior students from the school as well as some of the Lady Dragons Angelina Mccuaig and Trusha Ganeshalingam, the workshop was a great success. The Dragons are very impressed with the skills on display during the three-day visit and hope to make this an annual event.
Thank you Ms Fearon and Dante Alighieri Academy!
