Our Annual Registration Day

Hello Dragons and Friends

Our annual registration day is at hand!!! The season approaches!!!

On Sunday March 14 come down to the Duke of York where
we'll all get together for news about the league, our club and our direction for the coming season!

Any new players interested in joining our club are more than welcome!!!

We need to have thirty guys registered to play by the middle of April so please come on down, register, and enjoy a few pints!

Details:

The executive is pleased to announce that dues for this season are remaining the same as last year: $350 for the season, $250 for full time students. If you cannot pay the full amount up front this year the clubrequires a minimum payment of $200, $175 for full time students, with the
balance due on or before July 1.

There is a registration incentive!! All players who are registered and paid in full by April 15 will be eligible to receive the registration incentive!!

So come to the Duke for 1pm on Sunday March 14!!!

Indoor Touch Rugby

This is just a quick note to remind you that indoor touch begins this Sunday at 2pm under the bubble at Lamport Stadium.

The address for Lamport Stadium is 1151 King st. West. There is parking on the south side of the stadium. TTC access is by the King streetcar which will drop you at the front stoop or the Dufferin bus with a bit of a walk.

The cost will be $10 / session.

Also, Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday! Kick off is 6pm EST, so there is lots of time between touch and the game. Should you not have already made plans, and if you have you should change 'em, go to the Duke to watch the game!

A New Coach

From our President:

I am pleased to announce the appointment of our new Head Coach, Doug Seed. Doug had previously worked with Markham RFC and most recently spent a season coaching in Scotland with the Murrayfield Wanderers. If you have been to practice you will have noticed that the Coach is promoting a more fluid style of play for the Dragons this season.

Toronto Rugby Union 2010 Schedule Released

The schedule for the 2010 season has been released. Check out the fixtures section. We open on the road against Coburg on May 15 and our first home game is against North Simcoe on May 29.

All Second XV games start at 1:30 and all First XV games kick off at 3:00.

A message from Andy Ling - Past-President

My final message to you all as President of the Dragons�

Please join me in congratulating and welcoming the new Executive of 2010. It is good to see that for the first time in many seasons that we are fortunate enough to have enough inviduals stand to have a full Executive Board. This is very important as it will allow the Executive members to concentrate on their appropriate portfolios and not be burdened with multiple tasks throughout the season. The 2010 season will soon be up and running and things look to be in servicable hands!

As mentioned by me during the AGM I'd like to specifically thank Brecan for his efforts and time over the last few years on the Exec in the Adminstrative portfolio and also as President and past-President. Despite moving far enough that it's almost another dimension and the increased demands from his new born child, Brecan still contributed what time he could and his dedication to the Club was appreciated.

The new Executive will be meeting shortly and I'm sure they look forward to addressing the Club.

First Game of the Season

Saturday May 15 marks the beginning of the Dragons 2010 regular season. The Dragons will be kicking off at 1:30 in an away match against the Cobourg Saxons.

The Match will played at Cobourg East High School. Located on King Street in Cobourg.

Juniors Return!!!!

After seven long years, the Toronto Dragons are proud to announce that a Dragons U18 side has once again taken the field. On a gorgeous night for rugby this past Wednesday, the newest and youngest Dragons took the field agains the Brampton Beavers to apply the skills they've been working on for the last few weeks.

Congratulations to coach Aaron Freilich and all the boys!!

Any players aged 15 to 18 who are interested in playing rugby this summer, we'd love to see you out. Practices are Monday evenings at St Michaels College School with most games on Wednesday nights.

Two Hard Fought Wins Against the Bucs

Under sunny skies with no hint of the oppressive weather of the week, a strong showing against spirited Buccaneers opposition saw the Second team return to winning ways and the Firsts continue the roll started last week.

A strong line up for the Seconds saw tries from scrum half Lenny Yarde, number 8 Fred Beserve, centre Jas Singh, wing Uriah Martin, lock Andy Leskur and fly half Nick Hails, who also added 4 conversions, pace them to a 38 - 19 win.

The First team ran into a spirited Bucs team who didn't look like a team that has not yet won and hasn't had any luck scoring this year. Tries from wing Sean Robertson, fly half Kurt Magney, flanker Andrew Royce, lock Nick Reaburn, and fullback Simon Debelle who also added three conversions and one penalty off his boot made it a comfortable win in the end.

The men of the match were for the seconds Jas Singh and for the firsts Simon Debelle.

Dragons Secure 2nd Place and Ready for the Playoff

The Dragons First team banged out a hard fought win against North Halton on a wet day at Eglinton Flats on Saturday. Paced to a bonus point win by an inventive opening try by lock Scott Knight and two spectacular late tries by Fullback Simon Debelle and Centre Don MacKinlay, the Dragons overcame the downpours and spirited North Halton resistance to secured 2nd place in the TRU A table. The Dragons now prepare for the round robin playoffs in August and the goal of a TRU Cup Final on August 28th.

As North Halton announced that they couldn't field their seconds team, An undermanned Dragons Second Team fought hard in a losing cause in a replacement match against the Bay Street Pigs.

TRU Annouces Playoff Schedule: Dragons seeded 2nd

After both the Dragons teams finished their regular seasons in second place, it's no time to rest on our laurels as we drive forward. The TRU has released the playoff schedule. The league has based the playoff seedings in both divisions on the First Team finish which means that both teams will play together, First team at 3:00, the Second team at 1:30. Follow us here, or even better come out to Fletcher's and The Flats.

So without further ado: The Final League Standings:
